Watch the roles
Follow the batter facing the ball, the bowler delivering it and the fielders responding. Watch where the ball travels before trying to understand every term.
Follow one innings
The batting side builds a score while the fielding side tries to limit it and take wickets. Keep the innings, score and match format in view.
Build a vocabulary
Write down unfamiliar terms and look them up after the passage of play. Start with run, wicket, over and innings.
Read the right reference
The MCC Laws provide the framework; competition playing conditions add format-specific requirements. Always check both when resolving a detailed question.
